SUMMARY:ASSAI Cello Quartet - Bach revisited
DESCRIPTION:BICC Peer \n  \nThis concert is part of the series Noorderklanken in the Cultural Centrum BICC in Peer. More information and tickets can be found here. \n  \nWith this program the ASSAI Cello Quartet approaches different dimensions of the repertoire of Johann Sebastian Bach. Since the “cello quartet” setting did not exist as such at the time of Bach\, a few representative works have been transcribed for four cellos. Bach himself made daily use of arranging music: he played Vivaldi’s string quartets on organ and changed the instrumentation of his pieces depending on the instruments available. He also made transcriptions of his own works for other instruments. As an example\, a piece contained in this program: the Cello Suite V\, originally written for cello solo was arranged for lute by Bach himself. \n  \nProgram: \n-Chaconne from the Partita for Violin in D minor\, BWV 1004 \n-Cello Suite V\, BWV 1011 \n-Canzona\, BWV 588 \n-Air from the Orchestral Suite in D Major\, BWV 1068 \n-Fuga VII from “Well-Tempered Clavier”\, BWV 876

DESCRIPTION:On Saturday evening November 17th symphoniaASSAI presented a special concert with breathtaking music for strings conducted by Wouter Lenaerts: \n  \nEdward ELGAR- Sospiri (for harp and strings) \nEdward ELGAR – Serenade \nAntonin DVORAK – Serenade \n  \nThe program is built around the connection London-Prague\, two of the most important centres from the European music culture of the 19th century\, in which E. Elgar and A. Dvorak meet again. Despite their different origin the music of both composers shows many similarities that suggest a stylistic nexus between their compositions. \nConcert in cooperation with City of Peer.
