SUMMARY:Voyages | Following the tracks of Adolphe Sax
DESCRIPTION:Cultuurcentrum Mol – Schouwburg De Rex – 20.00 \nKoen Dries\, soloist \n  \n84 Rue Myrha\, Paris. It was in a dusty workshop in the north of the French capital where the saxophone began a world tour in 1842. \nThe Belgian instrument maker Adolphe Sax (1814-1894) had just moved from Brussels to Paris in the hope of finding more recognition for his work. The saxophone’s first trip was a success: composers such as Berlioz\, Bizet and Massenet immediately showed interest in this new sound and had the instrument featuring regularly in their new works. Only at the beginning of the 20th century it earned a place in the classical repertoire through the colorful orchestrations by Ravel\, Jongen\, Prokofiev and Debussy\, and from there catapulted to world fame through its regular appearance in jazz orchestras. \nIn Voyages saxophonist Koen Dries and symphoniaASSAI follow the tracks of Adolphe Sax\, honouring the saxophone’s inventor and the French world of sound that the instrument embraced during its first years of existence. \nThis production is part of the Doctorate in Arts that saxophonist Koen Dries is pursuing as Candidate for the Fonds Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek – Vlaanderen\, in collaboration with Kunstenplatform Brussel\, School of Arts Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel and Vrije Universiteit Brussel. \nMore info and tickets here! \nConcert in collaboration with Mol Omarmt.
